Sausages ultimate dilemma

Its 10 AM and a tough decision looms ahead for the sausage. One that impacts the entire day and everyone in his household. One that sets the tone for the rest of the week.

Ribs today or not?? If I go with Ribs today, I committ to 3-4 hours of slow cooking on the grill. No golf on the best temp day of the year. One week left of freedom and golfing will be harder to do going forward. Clearly... I know I am not shaving today so thats no issue. The other alternative is beer brats. I should stop typing. Who the hell am I kidding? I know Im doing the ribs. Ribs sitting in the fridge getting passed over is like Beardie at a beer festival drunk pocket dialing my wife. Neither should ever happen. I can only control one of these however. Ribs it is.

Rex Grossman on the Blackhawks??

As I watched a 2-0 Hawks lead quickly turn into a 5-2 deficit and a 5-4 final score, I couldnt help but notice the similarities between this current Hawks teams goaltending issues and Rex Grossman and the Bears circa 2006.

Cristobal Huet is a headcase. How he continuously can make the big sportcenter highlight save on a breakaway or in a shootout but then pisses in his pants whenever there is traffic in front of the net is beyond me.

Lets compare the similarites...

Huet in Goal vs Grossman at QB

Huet is a headcase who keeps sports shrinks in biz in this down economy. Grossman was the same way and you can see it in thier eyes and hear it in thier interviews.

They both play (or played) on a team with hands down the BEST defense in the league. That strength in both cases covers the glaring weakness over the first half of the season and eventually the issue builds and builds.

The stats dont look bad, in fact can be skewed to look good. Yeah, Huet winning percentage is great but if the Hawks only give up 15-20 shots and he gives up 2 in a 4-2 win where the Hawks put 30 shots on goal, is he doing his job? What about come playoff time when the other team (much like the Wings yesterday), will put up 25-30 shots. Remember how Lovie steadfastly supported Grossman as the QB play was falling apart?? THen Grossman throws the pick in the 4th q of the SB cementing his place in history as possibly the worst starting QB in the history of the SB... well, him and Tony Eason.

Both teams have young vibrant playmakers. Remember Devin Hesters rookie year? THe year he set a NFL record for TD returns? The year he returned the opening kick in the SB for a TD? Think Kane, Toews, etc. The big difference here is that Im confident if the Hawks lose in the playoffs they will address the issue in the offseason and not stick with "Stay the course".

Most noticable to me was yesterday. As the season went on the Bears were placed in more Natl TV situations. Same for the Hawks yesterday and next Sunday and again in a few weeks. What happens on this national TV game??? The teams glaring weakness gets immediately exposed to the world.

It was about 80% through the season then that Bears fans were calling for Griese even with the Bears firmly entrenched as a team with a chance to go the distance.

Alas, I am left knowing our best option is to stick it out with Niemi. A rookie in goal. He has never played a playoff game but Huet has never won a playoff series. I know what I have with Huet and this headcase wont make it through a stanley cup game without daily confirmations...your good enough, your smart enough and doggonit, people like you....just not me.

Bears spending spree

3 days after the signings, Im still reeling from the shock of the Bears spending spree. It has me excited, confused and anxious for the season to start. Lets start with excited.

The Bears clearly addressed 3 needs. The best pass rusher available and possibly the best in the league is now wearing the beloved navy and orange. He will be our best pass rushing threat since Richard Dent. Now Im not about to start writing SB shuffle 2 but no matter how much they gave Peppers, no matter how he performs, the Bears did something they have never done before... signed the top free agent available on the market. Bizarro. Its like when Matthew shaves his beard. We think it will never happen right? I agree, but I also thought Id never see the Bears committ 40+ mil to one player. This signing convinces me that at some point, Beardie will be beardless. Chester Taylor is the more telling move to me. A great pass catching RB, we now see this offense taking some shape at the skill positions. Taylor should make Forte better and vice versa. I compare it to BWW and Hooters. If you have Hooters, why would you need B dubs, right? Better beer selection, more TVs, better catered to the sports fanatic. Hooters and B dubs compliment each other like Forte and Taylor will. Then you add the best blocking TE available and one of the best in the league and your offense just got a whole lot better.

Now...not to be negative but...... this team still has holes. Big ones. O- line is the key. I said all last year that Chris Williams needed to play left tackle and after Pace got hurt and they moved him, it looks like we are set there. Kruetz is aging but will be fine for another year or two. We need someone to emerge or be signed or the offensive editions wont matter as there will be too much pressure on Cutler and he will throw 20 picks again.

Here is the ultimate question... what will happen first??? Peppers has a multiple sack game, Taylor and Forte score in the same game, Cutler has a game with no picks or Beardie goes beardless. Bizzaro indeed.

Sausage tries to add up the weekend

I should have known. I should have anticipated how things were going to go just from the debacle that was the Bears game Thurs night. Its only been downhill from there. For the first time in his stint as ND head coach, I am listening to those who say its time for him to go. You cant play that conservative in the first half with your job on the line agaisnt a top 10 team, especially with Floyd back in the lineup for a 2nd game and the Irish coming off an embarrasing loss to Navy.

We should actually take a step back a few hours. We took the kids to the park with the nieghbors and thier kids. Its a good walk but they had a motorized kids car so they could ride in that. After lunch, the battery died and we had to carry the car back. I havnt got a workout like that since walking to my car after a DMB show at Alpine Valley. That should have told me how the ND game was going to go. As we left the diner, Tennessee had the ball down 21-17 in the 3rd quarter. When we got home, well, lets just say UT is probably no longer in line for a Jan 1st bowl.

Now, its Sunday. The Bears do not play today. All our teams lost in the last 4 days. Maybe my fantasy team will make it up?
